Electroplast cable protection plates – a lighter alternative to concrete for Elering’s 110 kV cable line
For modern electrical and infrastructure projects, installation speed, occupational safety, and lifecycle costs are becoming increasingly important when selecting underground cable protection solutions. One effective solution is Electroplast cable protection plates, which replace traditional concrete plates for protecting both medium- and high-voltage cables.
A lighter and more flexible alternative to concrete
Electroplast cable protection plates are made of impact-resistant polyethylene (PE), making them significantly lighter and easier to handle than concrete plates. No heavy machinery is required for installation, which reduces labor and time costs and accelerates project completion. At the same time, these plates provide excellent mechanical protection, even for high-voltage cables.
It is precisely because of these properties that PE cable protection plates are used in many projects. replaced concrete plates, especially in situations where speed, flexibility and safety of work are of paramount importance.
Compliance with strict standards
Electroplast cable protection plates comply with European standard EN50520, which is often required in the construction of high and medium voltage infrastructure. The plates are made of high-quality impact-resistant polyethylene and are available in a wide range of sizes:
- width 100–1220 mm
- thickness 6–18 mm
- standard length 1000 mm, if necessary also longer elements
Cable protection plates have connection holes, which allow them to be connected quickly and securely using special fasteners. This ensures a uniform and stable protective layer along the entire cable section and significantly simplifies installation on objects. In addition, they can be ordered in different colors and with warning text, which increases work safety during subsequent excavation work.
Use in Estonia's high-voltage infrastructure
Electroplast cable protection plates have also been used Veskimetsa–Harku 110kV cable line in the construction of which is Elering's managed important electricity transmission grid object. Such a use case confirms that the solution also meets the strict technical and reliability requirements of the Estonian high-voltage infrastructure and is suitable for critical projects where risk mitigation is of paramount importance.
Electroplast – over 30 years of experience in cable protection
Electroplast is Dutch company, which has been operating as a manufacturer of cable protection, marking and pipe solutions since from the 1980s. With more than 30 years of experience, the company has focused on protection of underground cables and pipelines, providing solutions to the energy, telecommunications and infrastructure sectors across Europe.
In addition to cable protection plates, Electroplast's product range also includes warning tapes, protective nets, pipe systems and marking solutions. The company's focus is quality, compliance with international standards and sustainable materials, which makes their products suitable for long-term use in strategic infrastructures.
A reliable choice for future-proof infrastructure
High-voltage cable protection is a long-term investment, where mistakes can lead to high repair and interruption costs. Therefore, solutions that are both technically proven as well proven in real large projects. Electroplast cable protection plates, which are increasingly being used instead of concrete, meet these expectations and offer a modern, safe and flexible solution to the needs of today's infrastructure.
