✈️ Installation of Uniseal composite manholes at Tallinn Airport: a fast, precise solution adaptable to soil conditions.
The expansion and renovation of Tallinn Airport’s infrastructure has been a significant project in recent years, aimed at increasing the passenger terminal's capacity and upgrading critical underground systems. During the expansion work, new technical solutions better suited to the airport's specific soil conditions were also sought. One of the solutions tested was Uniseals composite manholes; their installation took place in August, and the process proved to be quick and seamless.
Four composite manholes – precisely matched to the ground level.
A total of four composite wells was installed at the site., the heights of which were precisely determined based on the airport's ground level. This flexibility is precisely one of the key advantages of composite manholes: the modular system allows the manhole height to be adjusted exactly to the site's requirements, without the need for additional work or heavy lifting equipment.
The installation took place during the day within a restricted airport area where there was no regular traffic and aircraft operations were not disrupted. The work proceeded smoothly, and the installation of each manhole took approximately two hours. The locations for the wells had been excavated beforehand, but the soil required precise leveling prior to installation. The composite well was then placed in position, and the surrounding area was backfilled to ensure stability and a proper final result.
Quick and logical installation process
The modular composite manhole system clearly demonstrated its strengths at the site:
Light weight made it possible to lift and position the wells by hand.
Modular construction made the installation logical and quick.
Precisely adjustable height adaptation to the specific characteristics of the airport soil.
Corrosion-resistant composite material ensures a long service life, even in challenging weather conditions.
The installation team completed the work quickly, and the feedback was positive—the solution integrated into the airport's infrastructure exactly as the project requirements specified.
Cooperation with the airport
Gridstock supplied Uniseal composite manholes to the site and supported the project by providing technical information to the installation team. Collaboration with the Tallinn Airport team was smooth and professional, and the installation proceeded without a hitch. All parties were left with a strong, positive impression of the project.
